How to Tell if Your CorelDRAW License Is Legit

Counterfeit CorelDRAW licenses are common on online marketplaces, and they often look and work like the real thing at first. The catch is that Corel actively blocks counterfeit serial numbers, usually within a few months, and the buyer is left with software that no longer runs. Here are three quick checks you can do to confirm your CorelDRAW Graphics Suite license is genuine.

1. Check the serial number format

The first 7 characters of a genuine CorelDRAW serial number follow a predictable pattern:

  • DRXXR22 for CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, where XX is the version number and the R indicates a Retail license
  • DRXXE22 where the E indicates an EDU (Education edition) license

A few product lines use different prefixes:

  • CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 2023 begins with DG instead of DR: DG24R22 (Retail) or DG24E22 (Education)
  • CorelDRAW Home & Student: DHXXR22
  • CorelDRAW Essentials: JLXXR22
  • CorelDRAW Standard: JKXXR22

In every case, the first 7 characters should ALWAYS end with 22. If your serial number is in any other format, it is likely counterfeit and will most likely be blocked by Corel within months.

2. Confirm authentication in your Corel account

If you signed in during the installation process, the license is assigned to your Corel account under the email address you used. To confirm it is authenticated:

  1. Sign in at corel.com with the same email address you registered the software with
  2. Once signed in to your profile, click Perpetual Products in the left-hand menu
  3. Your product(s) will be listed here. If all is in order, the status will show ACTIVE and Authenticated. A counterfeit or unverified license will show PROBLEM with an Unverified Status label

Corel account Perpetual Products page showing an authenticated license with ACTIVE status and a counterfeit license with PROBLEM Unverified Status

3. Warning signs inside the CorelDRAW application

The software itself will also tell you when something is off:

  • Red user icon: the user icon at the top right of the CorelDRAW window should be GREEN. If it is RED, there is a problem authenticating the license against Corel's servers
  • "Not for commercial use" in the window title: this means the license is an EDU (Education) license, intended only for students and teachers. It is a real license, but if you bought it as a normal Retail copy for business use, you were misled
